LIFE CALLIOPE is a project co-founded by the European Union under the LIFE+ Program to protect and improve coastal and marine environments.
The LIFE + Program is the financial instrument of the European Commission for environment and nature protection.
The ‘Nature & Biodiversity’ component is aimed at the conservation of rare and threatened species and habitats in Europe belonging to the Natura 2000 Network, the network of protected areas present in all EU countries, protecting about 27,000 terrestrial and marine sites.
‘Natura 2000 – Europe’s nature for you. This site is part of the European Natura 2000 Network. It has been designated because it hosts some of Europe’s most threatened species and habitats. All 28 countries of the EU are working together through the Natura 2000 network to safeguard Europe’s rich and diverse natural heritage for the benefit of all’.
